Peripherie

'Peripherie' means being somewhere in between – neither on the edge nor at the centre. It is a fragile state that we perceive, sense and experience in our everyday lives.
These photographs were taken on the outskirts of Detroit, USA.
It is the small, overlooked details that give rise to a world of their own. A faded 'Hotel' sign on an old brick façade, or striking murals that tell unique stories of resistance. The choice of black and white emphasises the visual structures, textures and rhythms that link the images together.
